Food Truck Foodie
Everyone knows the “hot” thing to do any night of the week is to go to a food truck. From festivals, to the parking lot down the street, you can easily find a high quality food truck almost anywhere, and any time of day! I consider myself to be somewhat of a “Foodie” and when the Food Truck craze started about 2 years ago, I did not hesitate to jump on the rolling band wagon! I have visited many trucks but I’m here to tell you about my favorites. My top 3 food trucks are Crepes Bonaparte, Chunk ‘n’ Chip, and the Border Grill Truck.
Crepes Bonaparte is most famously known from the Food Network’s ‘The Great Food Truck Race”. Seeing this truck I thought, “Wow! That looks great! I wish they were near me!” and after doing some research, I discovered they are based in Fullerton, CA. My first taste of Crepes Bonaparte was when they were serving dinner at a local brewery in Fullerton. I went down there on a Friday night and got in line. We stood in line for about half an hour, and let me tell you IT WAS WORTH THE WAIT! I ordered the “Spicy Apple Bottoms” crepe, which is described as a crepe with cooked cinnamon apple, caramel, and whipped cream. The hot apples mixed with the cold whipped cream was the perfect combination on chilly fall night. I highly recommend Crepes Bonaparte to anyone who is looking for good food at a great price.
When I think of the perfect summer dessert, I think of an ice cream sandwich, and Chunk-n-Chip Cookies has perfected the art of ice cream sandwiches. The first time I heard of Chunk-n-Chip Cookies was when I was snooping around the Internet and found a site for the Santa Anita Food Truck Festival. Among the list of twenty plus vendors, the Chunk-n-Chip Cookie truck stood out to me. So, my friend, Katy, and I decided to go to the festival and test them out. We stood in line for about 10 minutes, and then out sandwiches appeared! I ordered an “Old School” which is the classic ice cream sandwich with vanilla ice cream sandwiched between two Chocolate Chip cookies. This Ice Cream Sandwich is hands down the BEST ice cream sandwich I have EVER tasted!! The ice cream was ice cold and creamy, and the chocolate chip cookies were just out of the oven! The Chunk-n-Chip Cookies truck will satisfy your craving for an Ice Cream adventurous Foodie with a craving for something more creative; Chunk-n-Chip cookies will hit the spot!
As an avid “Top Chef” follower, I was thrilled to see the Border Grill Truck at the Santa Anita Food Truck Festival. The Border Grill is a restaurant owned by Susan Feniger and Mary Sue Milliken (both Top Chef Masters competitors). The Border Grill Truck is an extension of the restaurant, providing everything from Yucatan Pork Tacos to Churro Tots. The wait for this truck at the Santa Anita Food Truck Festival was about 45 minutes, but that did not deter Katy and I. We, as loyal food truck followers, stood in line, and when it was our turn to order, we ordered fish tacos, carnitas tacos, a carne asada quesadilla, and churro tots. Now when most people think of Food Trucks they think ‘Roach Coach”, a dirty and unappetizing meal. The Border Grill truck cannot be further from this image. The Tacos, Quesadilla, and Churro Tots tasted like Susan or Mary Sue had made them themselves moments ago! All ingredients were fresh and delicious! I give this truck 5 stars and I truly believe that this is one of the best trucks in the Los Angeles area.
