Ain’t No Party Like a Pinterest Party!
If there is one thing I am completely obsessed with right now it would be Pinterest. For those of you who don’t know what Pinterest is, it is an online social media website that allows you to create virtual pin boards and “pin” pictures to those pin boards. Now you may be asking yourself, “what exactly are these pins”? Well you can find almost any genre of pins on Pinterest from recipes and fitness tips to wedding dresses.
The numbers of users on Pinterest are increasing, especially when it comes to people who are looking for ideas for their next party. When searched, the word ‘Wedding’ returns hundreds of boards created by other Pinterest users. These boards contain everything from bouquet ideas to bridesmaid’s gifts. It is not uncommon for a Bride to come to a Skybox meeting with pictures that she has pinned on her Pinterest boards in hopes of being able to pull inspiration for her own special day.
The most common things that Brides pin from Pinterest are wedding gowns, wedding décor, favors, and flower arrangements. They will bring these to their meeting and say “I want this at my wedding”. A lot of pins on Pinterest are directly linked to a website selling what ever that item in the pin may be.
Weddings are not the only type of party you can get inspiration for from Pinterest. There are plenty of other pins out there waiting to be discovered that are all about kids parties, Halloween parties, Christmas parties, Easter parties, baby showers, adult birthday parties, and so much more!
The contents of a Pinterest board for a party can contain anything from recipes to the style of clothes you want to wear to the games you want to play. By clicking on each Pin, it will take you to a website that has the full details of that Pin. Most often it will take you to a website that gives you the full recipe, the Etsy site that will sell you the most adorable earrings ever, or maybe even the Skybox shop!
You may ask yourself, “How do I get a Pinterest account?” Well there are quite a few ways to get connected to Pinterest. The first way is to request an invite. By clicking on the “Request an Invite” on the home page of Pinterest, an email will be sent to you and you can sign in via Facebook or Twitter. The second way is to find a friend who is already on Pinterest and have them send you an invite via email, Facebook, or Twitter. When you first create your account, you will be asked what you’re interested in such as recipes, weddings, photography, and many other genres of pins. As soon as you sign up you will be transported into a world of pictures, recipes, and inspiration.
The social media part of Pinterest is getting “followers” who are people that are looking at all of your boards and pins. They can “repin” your pin if they would like to pin it on their own board, or they can simply “like” your pin. Seeing all of the other Pins that other users have pinned may help you to get more ideas, just like you would if you were to open a magazine or wedding blog.
Connecting to Pinterest is very easy, you can do it the good-old fashioned way: by logging onto the computer, or you can download the app from the app store. I personally use the app on my iPhone and iPad.
So the next time you’re thinking about throwing a Birthday party, summer BBQ, or that Special day go check out Pinterest! I guarantee you will find something that will make you say “hey! I can do that!”
