Pamper Me Fabulous
This weekend I lounged with girlfriends, colleagues, and other dynamic women in a chic modern setting, a la “Sex and the City” style, the crème de la crème of spas and salons, beauty services, beauty products, entertainment, sweets and eats, swag bags and much more, all under one swanky spot in the heart of LA. I was truly honored to be one of the finalist for Fabulous Female Awards, so many amazing ladies in this special group.
This was the very kind nomination by my colleague:
Ngoc Nguyen is a coordinator and organizer committed to empowering other young women to discover and achieve their full potential. Formidable and multidimensional, she helps other women by quietly passing on skills and information in order to inspire a new group of leaders: one event, one panel, and one retreat at a time. She sees the world through the lens of social justice. From campus to community, she makes an impact on every neighborhood, event or group with which she comes into contact. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Social Ecology at UC Irvine and a master’s in education at USC. Her career has spanned many areas; from higher education to event coordinator to young entrepreneur...but always with a focus on leadership. She has served as a Student Affairs Administrator for college students in varies institutions. Beyond these roles, Ngoc is a “mother” to countless students who rely on her to help them through personal life struggles. She has served as care giver, mentor, role model, and life counselor to many in need, whether they were going through abuse, financial difficulties, or health problems.
Born in Hong Kong during her parents’ flight from post Vietnam War, Ngoc was one years old when her family settled in America. Her parents’ experience as refugees planted the seeds of social justice, encouraging her to help others in similar situations. As an Asian woman who grew up in Southern California, Ngoc was influenced by her community, surrounded by strong women, many of whom were single and raising children on their own.
Ngoc started organizing events at an early age. As a Grade 7 student she organized an assembly to honor motivated students to encourage them to continue in the path of educations. As a high school student, she implemented a leadership retreat in order for her peers to receive leadership training. She was the first generation in her family to attend a university, where she had immersed herself in a range of groups and organizations related to social justice issues. Her dedication to advocacy, anti-racism and the strengths of women inform her efforts to celebrate their abilities collectively.
Ngoc Nguyen sees her creative as an extension of herself. She is currently the Creative Director and Principal Consultant for her own event planning company, Skybox Event Productions. Ngoc is one of Southern California’s leading event coordinator, and her business Skybox Event Production provides innovative event solutions to the corporate and wedding markets in the western region. She develops and creates event concepts and transforms simple spaces into amazing experiences. Ngoc has successfully developed a mentor training seminar for future young business women to develop their own leadership skills. Ngoc’s complete can-do attitude has helped her business flourish over the past year and she is now making sure to pass along her knowledge to peers in the industry.
